Dental Abrasive Strips
General Information
StarLine Dental Polishing Strips are single-use, non-sterile dental abrasive strips intended for professional dental use.
The strips are made of a thin and flexible lavsan backing coated with aluminium oxide abrasive. Each strip contains a non-abrasive centre gap to facilitate insertion between interproximal contact points and two abrasive working areas for sequential finishing and polishing.
The thin and flexible backing allows the strips to be used in interproximal areas where access may be limited.
Intended Purpose and Indications for Use
StarLine Dental Polishing Strips are intended for finishing and polishing interproximal surfaces of dental restorations.
The strips may be used for step-by-step finishing and polishing of interproximal restorative surfaces where access with rotary instruments may be limited.
The product is intended to be used by dental professionals only.
Colour-Coded Abrasive Grades
- Beige — Coarse
- White — Medium
- Grey — Fine
- Blue — Superfine
For best results, use the strips progressively from coarser to finer abrasive grades.
Contraindications and Possible Side Effects
Do not use the product if the patient is known to be allergic or hypersensitive to any of the product materials, including lavsan or aluminium oxide.
No specific side effects are expected when the product is used as intended.
Possible risks associated with improper use include irritation or injury of soft tissues, damage to the restoration surface, or discomfort due to excessive pressure or prolonged use.
Warnings and Precautions
- For professional dental use only.
- The product is supplied non-sterile.
- Single use only.
- Do not reuse.
- Do not use the product if the packaging is damaged or opened before use.
- Do not use the product if the strip is damaged, contaminated, torn, excessively bent, delaminated, or if the abrasive coating is peeling.
- Do not use the product after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
- Avoid excessive pressure during use.
- Prolonged use or excessive pressure may generate heat and may damage the restoration or adjacent tissues.
- Use care when working near soft tissues.
- Rinse the working area between abrasive steps to remove abrasive particles and debris.
- Dispose of used strips immediately after use in accordance with local regulations and the dental facility’s procedures.
Instructions for Use
- Before use, remove excess restorative material and contour the restoration as required using appropriate dental instruments.
- Select the appropriate StarLine Dental Polishing Strip according to the required finishing or polishing step.
- Open the package immediately before use.
- Insert the non-abrasive centre gap of the strip between the interproximal contact points.
- Position the selected abrasive working area over the restorative surface to be finished or polished.
- Firmly hold both ends of the strip and move the abrasive area over the restoration surface using a controlled back-and-forth motion.
- Rinse the treated area with water to remove abrasive particles and debris.
- Repeat the procedure using the next finer abrasive grade, if required.
- After use, discard the strip.
Recommended Sequence
- For best results, use the strips progressively from coarser to finer abrasive grades.
- Beige — Coarse / Gross Reduction: For initial finishing, removal of excess restorative material, shaping of the restoration anatomy, and removal of the superficial air-inhibited layer.
- White — Medium / Contouring: For reducing surface roughness and completing or refining contours and margins.
- Grey — Fine / Finishing: For removing visible scratches, smoothing the restoration surface, and preparing the surface for final polishing.
- Blue — Superfine / Polishing: For final polishing and achieving a smooth, high-gloss surface.
- Do not skip abrasive steps when a high-quality final surface is required.
Storage, Transport and Shelf Life
Store the product in a clean, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, contamination, chemicals, heat, and mechanical damage.
Recommended storage conditions: temperature from +10 °C to +25 °C; relative humidity not more than 80%.
Transport the product in closed packaging and protect it from moisture, contamination, chemicals, heat, direct sunlight, and mechanical damage.
Shelf life: 18 months.
The expiry date, LOT number and article/reference number are indicated on the product packaging.
Disposal
Used strips must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations and the dental facility’s procedures for used dental materials.
